History

Café Pacas has been working Finca La Esperanza since November 2010.  This is a big, beautiful farm, that produces exceptional quality coffee.  Finca La Esperanza is located in Cantón El Porvenir, Municipio de Chalchuapa, Santa Ana.  The farm begins at 1,000 masl and goes all the way up to 1,750 masl.  Because of the shape of the farm and its drastic change in elevation, it is crucial to have a well-maintained road system.
Since 2012, this farm has been in a process of being totally renovated.  The original trees were very old, making their root system inefficient and weak, so we had to make the decision to renovate completely.

For this renovation project, we decided to re-design the farm and organize it as a big varietal garden.  The farm is divided into 18 different lots. We have decided to plant different varietals of coffee in each of them.  As of now, we have re planted 70% of the total farm area using the following varietals: Pacas, Red Bourbon, Pacamara, Orange Bourbon, Kenya, Bernardina, Heirloom and Mokka varietals.

Because of its location (North West region), Finca la Esperanza has a wonderful climate and it is not affected by wind.

Finca La Esperanza is very special for the following reasons:

  • The different varietals that are planted in it.
  • The fantastic and diverse cup profile of its varietals.
  • The farm’s biodiversity, it has all types of shade trees: ingas, eucalyptus, conifers, among others.
  • The amazing altitude and views you can see from the farm.
  • The commitment and hard work of the farm’s manager and his team.

Finca La Esperanza provides a total of 65 Jobs in the local community. This contributes positively to the wellbeing of the people in the area.

Social Responsability

Café Pacas is committed to contribute in a positive manner to our society. Since 2012, we have developed a social responsibility strategy, which includes wellness workshops that are offered to our people.
We have partnered with an NPO called FUNPRES. Together we have a stronger impact in the communities around the farms and mill.
These programs are focused on providing wellness tools to the people that work at Café Pacas. Additionally, they receive individual psychotherapy sessions in case they need it.
We recognize that people are the most important part of our company. Their socio-emotional wellness is our top priority.

  • Re-planting of the farm using high quality varieties of coffee
  • Using diversified shade trees
  • Digging “fosas”, which are holes that capture water and organic matter into the acquifers
  • Using Green-approved fertilizers
  • No hunting
  • Soil erosion prevention programs
  • Cypress forest at the top which is kept wild

Achievements and innovations

  • FINCA LA ESPERANZA won 3rd place in El Salvador COE 2019, with its Bernardina varietal. In the international auction, Finca La Esperanza achieved the 2nd highest price.
  • In 2011 Finca La Esperanza won 31st place in COE with the Bourbon Varietal.
  • In 2021 we started a project of drying coffee at this farm.  Finca La Esperanza has the proper infrastructure, so we built raised beds to dry coffee in-situ.  This will benefit quality as well as provide more job opportunities for the people in the community.
